AMSTERDAM UNDERGROUND TOUR, Pure stories of life on the streets

During the tour, we will show you Amsterdam's inner city through the eyes of someone who is homeless and in need of drugs. Is there a place to sleep dry? Can I make quick cash for drugs or booze? Where can I find food and where am I safe? We tell you our personal story. How we ended up on the streets. How we survived in the raw and unsafe environment of the Amsterdam Red Light District. And how we now look for and find peace in our lives again, for example as tour guide of this special city walk.

The route starts at Dwaze Zaken on Prins Hendrikkade 50, and ends at Brouwerij de Prael, Oudezijds Voorburgwal 30. (The guides tell their personal and unpolished story of addiction and survival on the streets. The walk is therefore not suitable for children under 12.)

About the route

The tour follows a fixed route and leads you past places you won't easily find in the average travel guide. Our guides will tell you their personal story during the walk which makes every walk different.

Amsterdam Underground is a Cooperative. The guides are all owners and earn their income from their work. The guides have often had to live as homeless and deal with the consequences of substance abuse. They have developed knowledge and skills under these difficult circumstances that they now put to positive use during the city walks. Based on their own experiences, the guides give an insight into the lives of people for whom things have gone slightly differently. The walk thus creates more understanding for (former) addicts and fights the stigma they sometimes experience on a daily basis. Working as a guide contributes to self-confidence, self-esteem and increasing self-reliance.

Amsterdam Underground is an initiative of De Regenboog Groep. De Regenboog Groep wants Amsterdam to be a place where everyone feels at home.
